Zarbee’s Natural Cough Syrup

October 30, 2010

Have you noticed that you cannot purchase cough medicine for anyone under the age of 5?  Most cold medicines for little ones have been taken off the market.  Parental misuse is one reason and that is very sad but another reason is that many of the ingredients were unsafe.  When we have a sick child we want to give them medicine that is safe and effective.  Even my 12 year old said she did not want to take a medicine because even if it did not work she would still have all that junk in her.  She is quite the character.  Yet, she is not too far off the mark.

Being a mom who only wants to give the best I can to my kids, I tend to buy natural versus processed.  So, along with my organic apples, I purchase honey, lemon and garlic to mix up my own brew of natural cold remedies as often as possible.  Let’s be real though…we would rather just buy a natural product then mix it up like a medicine man.  Or at least I would prefer to find a medicine I could trust that I was not making on my own which can be costly.

This brings me to the opportunity to review Zarbee’s Natural Cough Syrup.  I normally do not review medicine.  Not because of any conviction or belief, I just honestly don’t care to do it.  However, Zarbee’s caught my eye.  It’s natural and it’s safe for children.  Safe for kids as young as 12 months old!  Besides that cute little bee on the package is enough to make me give it a second look.  I am a firm believer that honey is a gift from God.  I have used it for allergies, sore throats and cold remedies and always had great results.

So let’s get down to brass tacks and let me give you the rundown of  cherry flavored Zarbee’s.

water

The story behind the medicine:

Created by Dr. Zak Zarbock for his young patients who needed relief from coughs.  In pursuit of something safe and effective he found the amazing health benefits of honey and Zarbee’s was born.

My experience:

I’ll be honest.  I accepted this review not knowing when I would have to use this product but I wanted a cough medicine that was safe for my toddler.  I have four kids and every year coughs, colds, and flu play musical chairs with my kids.  I knew at some point I would need this product.  In my heart, I knew I could not review this product until it was used though.  So, hoping the PR guy would not get mad if he had to wait months on end for a proper review I accepted.

I am sad and glad to say that I just had to use this product over the past two days.  Sad because my 2 year old is sick.  Glad because I can offer you a review on this product just as cold and flu season approaches.  I am hoping to get you all before your purchase anything else.  I gave a dose to my little one just before bed and she slept soundly all night!  The night before was not so sound.  She took it happily as well.  While I do not believe medicine must taste good and for the most part it should not, you also need something your child will swallow.

Now my fussy toddler is happy while sick on Zarbee’s.  I feel like I am in a commercial but honestly this is the truth.  She was a monster while all her symptoms were present.  Tylenol helped with the fever but not the cough or sore throat.  Zarbee’s addressed the symptoms and gave back a toddler who is calmer while she fights off this cough and cold.

Now that I am catching her sore throat and cough I know I will be sneaking some Zarbee’s for myself.

Absolutely agree! Zarbee’s is a miracle medicine for kids with a cough! And the odd thing is this….they are calmer.

I am so thankful for this product, and I am thankful to God for honey!

Thank you for the review. I bought Zarbees knowing my child would one day need cough syrup and I prefer the all natural route. Tonight I need it and it was very comforting to know your thoughts on this product as I was hesitant to give honey to my 16 month old. Thanks again!

I absolutely agree. Although I gave my daughter Zarbee’s all natural nighttime cough and sleep drink, not the cough syrup, because she coughed only while sleeping. Her cough was very severe up to the point when she threw up. So, I gave her the Zarbee’s drink to help her sleep through the night. I was astonighed when after 2 nights she stopped coughing at all. I would recommend this product to anyone without a second thought! Thank you, Dr. Zarbock!
